Vigilance in Faith: Navigating the Spiritual Battlefield - 1 Peter 5:8

"Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary, the Devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour."

— 1 Peter 5:8

I follow this gal on Instagram and she shared an experience she had one weekend. While she was parked and waiting for her food delivery, two random girls got into the backseat of her car. They explained how they thought her car was their ordered taxi service. Can you believe that? They had not even checked to see if her vehicle matched up with their order, looked for a logo, or done whatever else they might have to keep themselves safe.

The new rideshare services have made it so easy for someone to potentially be kidnapped, which is frightening. This situation made me think about all the ways Satan tries to capture us. He tries to make it easy for us to be taken by him by tempting us into sin. He knows just how to get us into his proverbial car. In 2 Corinthians 11:3, Paul alludes to the first sin in the Garden of Eden : "But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may be seduced from a complete and pure devotion to Christ."

We are no different than Adam and Eve in the Garden. Satan easily tempts us because he is crafty and spins truth into deceit. 1 Peter 5:8 states, "Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary, the Devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour."

We must remain in God's Word consistently in order to recognize the difference between God's truth and the enemy's lies. When we truly know the nature of God, we can more readily weed out the false nature of the enemy.

Do you recognize the voice of God today, or are you being confused by Satan's beguiling whispers?

Perspectives into Practice:

What would it look like for you to spend more time in the Word? I challenge you to read the love letters in the Bible that Christ has written to you and learn more about His heart toward you. Go back through the passages that we read today and dive deeper. In-depth study is a helpful way to learn about our awesome Jehovah God, what the author meant, and how we can apply it to our lives, using it in our fight against the enemy! Stay strong in the Lord so that you are not easily deceived.
