"The Lord will always lead you, satisfy you in a parched land, and strengthen your bones. You will be like a watered garden and like a spring whose waters never run dry."
— Isaiah 58:11
One morning, while at a women's retreat at a beautiful resort property, I stepped outside to sit on the porch for some quiet time. The balcony overlooked a golf course, and while I sat there, a large sprinkler rose from the ground to water the grass.
As I watched it, I was mesmerized. I began to think about the lawn's need to be watered, reminding me that, in Christ, I am like a watered garden. I looked up Isaiah 58:11 which says, "The Lord will always lead you, satisfy you in a parched land, and strengthen your bones. You will be like a watered garden and like a spring whose waters never run dry."
As I read those words, my face lit up, and I smiled so big because I AM like a watered garden. If you are in Christ, you too are like a watered garden. We NEED Christ to rain down on us. We NEED Christ to satisfy us.
I looked up what the word "satisfy" means in the dictionary and its definition is "to fulfill the desires and expectations, needs, or demands; to give assurance to." I don't know about you, but if I don't have my quiet time each day, my coffee break with my Heavenly Daddy, I am dry, thirsty, and in need of water. My Provider, Jehovah God, is the only one who can do that. He is Living Water!
If we think back to the golf course, we see that it is a lot like us. We are the grass. Christ is the water. The grass cannot survive without the water from the sprinkler. What would happen to the grass if it didn't have its daily dose of water? It would dry out, shrivel up, and become brown and withered. The grass needs the water, and the water nourishes the grass. Its purpose is to saturate and satisfy the grass and ground. If it hits the concrete, it just puddles, because its purpose is not for the lifeless concrete.
Christ wants to water you daily. He wants to rain down His love on you, but you must be willing to receive it. You must be an open and willing vessel to receive His outpouring. God's grace is offered to those who are not in Him yet the blessing and love that He offers to those He wants to draw to Himself is for everyone!
What are you allowing to satisfy you in the dry land?
I challenge you to consider how you can be like the grass, a willing vessel, soaking up all that God has to offer you. You can be shiny and bright on the outside AND healthy and beautiful on the inside because Christ has watered you! Ask the Lord to show you who you are in Him!
