Surrendering Control: Trusting in God’s Perfect Plan for Us - Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

— Proverbs 3:5-6

My kids love cooking. They love to bake things by themselves, help me in the kitchen, and play pretend restaurant in their toy kitchen. The other day my youngest was carrying several measuring cups in her hands. She was walking crooked and kept kicking her sippy cup that was on the floor. Each time she would go to grab the sippy cup, a measuring cup would fall out of her hands. Instead of putting them down to grab the sippy, she wanted to hold it all, but she couldn't have it all.

God so lovingly reminded me how alike she and I are, and yes, even you. When we are juggling lots of things in our life that WE want, the Lord can't bless us with what HE wants to do in us. Instead of thinking that when we release something that we really want to God that He is taking something FROM you, I wonder if we thought about it as if WE were giving it TO Him instead.

I don't know about you, but that is hard for me to hear because I say yes to all the things! The Lord has been working on me to let go of things in my life so that He can bless me with new, exciting things. I was stubborn for a while, trying to hold my own life together and just top it off with God's plans. But, when I finally surrendered, obeyed, and gave it all to Him I was covered in such peace. If we are not willing to allow God to take over our lives, we cannot expect Him to work through us fully. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and He will make your paths straight." When we obey, relinquish control, and fully surrender our own desires and lives to the Lord, we are allowing and trusting God to do His work in and through us and bless us immensely. It is when we try to go it alone, putting too much on our plates, that things tend to fall apart.

Are you allowing God to take over your life?
