“Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.”
— Matthew 7:7
I was recently invited to go out with a friend for her birthday. She had several of her friends there, and I didn't know any of them, which was fine because I make friends easily.
We had a wonderful dinner and afterwards we headed to Nashville. I drove everyone, since I wasn't planning to drink alcohol.
Once we got to the downtown area, I realized that I didn't fit in with the crowd there. And not for the way that you may think. I realized that I didn't fit in because I was different. As I looked around the bars, clubs, and streets, I saw sadness covered in alcohol, loneliness surrounded by strange men, and desperate souls longing for love. A love that they would not find there. They were looking for someone or something to fill a void in their lives, but only God can do that. Only Christ can make you alive again.
Those that do not have Christ in their hearts are dead inside. So, filling themselves with alcohol, drugs, companions, etc., may make them feel better for that moment, but it does not compare to the everlasting fulfillment that the Lord God can do inside of you! This same thing goes for believers. Sometimes we get in a rut, and instead of turning to Jesus, we turn to worldly things.
Jesus said to us in Matthew 7:7, "Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you." God is waiting for us to ask Him to help us, to come into our lives, and to take over, He is faithful! God wants to have a personal relationship with each of us. He doesn't want to be a part of your life, He wants to BE your life!
What are you asking of God?
I challenge you today to look at your own life and ask if there is a God-shaped hole that you are filling with the world instead of Jesus. I pray that you will ask the Lord to fill that hole for you. I pray that the God of hope fills you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
